Lynne Oakes is an artist and a teacher of artists who has lived
in Germantown, Maryland for 18 years.
While she paints in a variety of media, oil painting and watercolor
are her primary interests. Her subject matter includes life in its
many aspects: landscapes, florals, cats, dolls, still life and
portraits.
Teaching drawing and painting to aspiring artists is as important
to her as her own artwork. "I feel a responsibility to pass
on to others what they need to create their own work."
Educated in art from her early years, she graduated from The State
University of Iowa and continued with a M Ed. in Art Education from
The Pennsylvania State University. Her entire family are artists.
Her father is a photographer, her mother a watercolor artist and
her sister is a jewelry designer. Her son is continuing the family
tradition as a metal sculptor with an interest in the performing
arts.
Lynne's paintings are in private collections in the U.S. and Europe.
She is also represented in various corporate collections.
In her community, she founded an art league that is now in its
16th year. This is another aspect of her devotion to helping others
to follow their dreams to be artists, and to be in the company of
artists.
